First and foremost, thank you in advance for your membership and past support of AFA! To say 2021 was a difficult year for the Lake Almanor Community would be an understatement.  From the devastating DIXIE Fire, COVID and the loss of AFA Founder Reuben Chavez our organization suffered and endured unimaginable hardships.

In spite of our communities’ collective losses, AFA and our volunteers continue to support the youth and Veterans of Plumas County. In 2021, AFA distributed youth fishing rods to every fourth grader in Plumas County; in addition, we gave away 35 rods to youth of Greenville impacted by the DIXIE Fire. On Saturday June 26th we hosted our fourth Veteran’s Fishing Day on Lake Almanor when 53 boats took 117 Veterans Fishing. At the barbecue after fishing more than 300 people celebrated local Veteran, Hero, and John Bottemley’s 98th Birthday. AFA Volunteers proudly supported the Veterans Day Parade held in Greenville. Through the Almanor Foundation and True Value Hardware in Westwood, AFA was able to purchase and deliver 12 cords of firewood to Crescent Mills for distribution to residents of Indian Valley impacted by the DIXIE Fire.

AFA remains committed to our World Class Fishery, our fish pen program is the longest running most successful fish pen program in the state. We raised and released 60,000 fish in 2021 and this year our Eagle Lake strain Rainbows are healthy, growing quickly and will be ready for release this spring.

Project 2105 and cold-water releases from Lake Almanor remain a top priority for AFA and the Lake Almanor Community. AFA has unified with LACC, Save Lake Almanor, Lake Almanor Chamber and other organizations in preparation for legal action if/when FERC rules in favor of cold-water releases from Almanor.

Lastly, for the second year in a row AFA was forced to cancel our annual picnic, if you purchased dinner tickets in 2021 and chose to not have your monies refunded, as a token of our appreciation, the AFA Board would like to offer you the opportunity to use the ticket monies towards your annual membership! Just mark the box on the Membership application that states:   Please use my 2021 picnic ticket donation as my 2022 membership dues!

As always thank you for supporting AFA!
