***  Picnic Cancelled  ***

August 25th 2021

The Almanor Fishing Association held a board meeting last night via ZOOM. We unanimously agreed that it was in the best interests of the Lake Almanor Community to cancel our 2021 annual picnic.

The trust of our members, volunteers and partners will always be our top priority; to that end AFA will make every effort to contact everyone that has purchased a dinner ticket to offer you a refund. We have heard from numerous people that are electing to donate their ticket money to AFA and we appreciate your generosity. If you have purchased a ticket(s) and would like a refund please contact AFA via email @ This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or mail your ticket to AFA  P.O. Box 1938, Chester, CA 96020 and we will mail you a check.

We have once again postponed our raffle drawing; a date, time and place for the raffle has yet to be determined. Tickets are still available online @ almanorfishingassociation.org until we run or of tickets or until the drawing .We will be adding a couple of items to the raffle so everyone has better odds of possessing a winning ticket.

The past two years have been life changing for many of us. The AFA board wants to insure our supporters that we remain committed to the Lake Almanor Community and Almanor's world class fishery. We are confident fishing will play a pivotal role in the healing process of our community. Today we will be ordering $12,000 of fish food to feed the 50,000 fertile Eagle Lake Rainbows that we will be receiving in late October. While we don’t want to minimize the devastating impacts of the Dixie Fire and COVID, the Almanor Fishing Association fish pen program will remain the “longest running most successful fish pen program” in the state.

The Almanor Fishing Association will host its 28th Annual Family BBQ and Fundraiser on Saturday, July 31st from 4 pm to 9 pm at the Lake Almanor Country Club Rec 1 Picnic Area. Dinner will be served between 5 pm and 6 pm. The menu will be our traditional New York steaks dinner for $20 or a Hot Dog dinner for $10. Both meals include beans, salad, French bread and cookies. Drink tickets for Sierra Nevada beer, wine, soda, and water are also available on location.

Following dinner there will be a silent auction and large raffle drawing for prizes such as overnight stays at casinos, cash, golf packages, coolers, fishing gear (rods, reels, lures, dodgers, etc.), gift certificates to restaurants, gift baskets, and much, much more. There will be door prizes and a unique special raffle. In addition, each child in attendance between the ages of 3 and 14 will go home with a prize!

This annual event is the only fundraiser hosted by our dedicated and active non-profit group of men and women volunteers. Funds from the event support the publication of our annual newsletter, The Almanor Fisherman, our association's fish rearing cage program, scholarships for local high school students that we award each year, and provides financial support to the Chester High School Limnology Laboratory when needed. The Almanor Fishing Association Fish Rearing Cage Program is the largest and most successful pen project in the state. To date, more than 3.2 million Eagle Lake trout have been released into Lake Almanor by the association's volunteers. Our annual BBQ is necessary to raise funds so we can continue to make Lake Almanor a trophy trout lake for the North state. The association is also responsible for the picnic area and restrooms at the Fishing Access Area at Hamilton Branch.
